Mountain Time

I am astonished
at the human lack of ability
to stay still.

Skipping ahead.
Snapping pictures of landmarks to prove
how far they have walked,
instead of capturing the moment
in their hearts.

Stop and breathe.

My challenge to you
is to live on mountain
time.

Do not dwell on
the mistakes of your
past or compare
yourself
to your old feats
Do not fret over the uncertain
future/
Still yourself

The mountain is frozen in
time,
yet never stops moving,

Leaves are reaching
desperate grasps
at the sunlight,
sunlight can never be grasped
only reflected.
Trees spiral up
to the sky,
 Slowly,
    Slowly,
       Slowly.
Ants dutifully picking
up pieces of the forest floor
never stopping to admire their progress.
Mushrooms ever carefully decaying
what they grow on,
yet it is not out of
malice, like the word projects

Only part of mountain time.

Details

To get the perfect picture
sometimes
you have to take a step back
and get a better angle
Making sure the light is just right
Life is a little like that.

Notice.

Waves of steam claiming winter air
floating from plastic cups
Warmed up backs from roaring flame

Sharpened pencil leaving
little dusts of graphite
on your paper.
Finding a constellation that
you can recognize. Hey look!

Fall in love with the details.

Rain, Rain, It's OK

Who lets their couch give
a hug when drops fall from the sky?
When water darts across the streets,
full of secrets,
slick with misery?

Curl into yourself.
Must and old memories
timeless words-
let them overwhelm you,
Fogging your mind
Snaking into your noes
And between your toes

with those words from never land

It All Falls Apart

sharpie buildings and water color skies
Cities built from the wonder of dreams.

Paper people
with bubble ideas
The new guy
Who can't believe her
boss holds the
fact that can pop her world.

No more staples, to hold
life together.
Rules change,
but just another day

The wind catches heartbeats
to snatch souls in the smoke.

Unopened

Find the antique shops and coffee houses.
The nooks and crannies.
Cracks are where the wisdom lies.
Scurrying spiders carrying secrets.
Dust off corners to unveil the past.
cobwebs wrapping timeless mentions.

Witness to the gambler.
XXX
no more staples
Time is running out.

Witness

The bar stool is up.
the goal unopened
An unread hardcover-
made from dead plants

A world made of death
to let life thrive.

The new Guy

the tree was still up
the clouds gather over,
forming a plan,
time is running out
All Gone.

My bag is packed.

I Am An Idea Lost

I am an idea lost,
Finding my way out.
I am a deep pocket,
Full of growing doubt.

I am the empty pen,
Never thrown away.
I am a blank notebook,
Write in me, okay?

I am mycelium,
Chatter underground.
I am the sun and stars
Always to be found.
I am a creeping vine,
Seeking new stories.
I am a windblown tree,
Reaching for glory.

I am a fermata,
More than a beat long.
I am a quarter rest,
Right where I belong.
I am the empty space,
Filling up the room.
I am beautiful sounds,
Bursting into bloom.

Slow Down

There's always gonna be
mean names and bad aims
in corners
And dumb brains
in skyscrapers

There's always gonna be
bad days
and frantic Mays.

Slow down
Don't drown even in total darkness.

Never let yourself become
so reckless
with this life you have
that you lose rationale to live.

We're all dying anyway.
So why not just do your best today
And see about tomorrow?

Hiding Behind Humor

There's a lot you can
hide behind humor.
No one suspects
the girl laughing,
her head thrown back
and a grin across her face
But you never know, do you?

It's on the inside that counts.

shiny hair: check
high heels:check
fake smile plastered on: check
don't forget makeup to cover up those dark circles: check
"How are you?"
"Fine."

I'm melting,
like the witch they say,
slowly fading from
what old memories tell me to be
The clothes are itchy
against my burning skin
Hollow cheeks and carved in stomachs
"How are you?"
"Fine."
